Located in the picturesque foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, The Stumphouse Writers’ Retreat is held at the alluring Chattooga River Lodge & Campground in scenic Longcreek, S.C., at the northwest point of the state where South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia meet.
Surrounded by the Sumter National Forest, the property consists of 34 wooded acres along the town’s scenic namesake Long Creek, which meanders through the property. The wild and scenic Chattooga River is just minutes away.
The 4,500-square-foot post-and-beam lodge has nine private guest rooms/studios, which will each house one writer during the five-day retreat.
The rooms are thoughtfully furnished and come equipped with a writing desk, office chair, coffee maker, and mini-fridge. The large, shared bathhouse is conveniently just steps away.
Outside of the rooms/studios is a large, wisteria-draped courtyard and stacked stone fire pit. In addition to your private guestroom/studio there are ample outdoor spaces to write and find inspiration during your time at the Stumphouse Writers' Retreat.
Our goal is to provide you with the sustenance you need for your creative journey so you can spend less time thinking about your meals and more time writing!
Mornings begin with a continental-style breakfast served in the wisteria-draped courtyard (weather dependent). Some things that will be offered include freshly-baked pastries, seasonal fruit, yogurt, and quiche, along with coffee, hot tea, and juice to kick-start your morning.
As the day—and hopefully your work—unfolds, thoughtfully-prepared boxed lunches, offering vibrant salads and flavorful sandwiches are available to be picked up or delivered to your room.
Come evening, the communal table is set with a freshly prepared family-style dinner. Celebrate camaraderie and creativity with your fellow writers. Then, after dinner, you may choose to continue the conversation while enjoying s'mores around the courtyard's stacked stone firepit.
Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase throughout your stay at Willie’s Tavern, which is open daily, serving food and drinks 11am-10pm on weekdays and 11am-11pm on weekends.
